Yvon with colleagues in Port-au-Prince, 2024

Yvon Vilius is able to access parts of Haiti that may prove difficult for others, including sensitive areas like Cite Soleil, where he was born. A fluent speaker of Haitian Creole, English, and French, Yvon has been working with international media for 20 years, beginning in 2004.

In June of 2011, Yvon was part of an Al Jazeera English team which received a prestigious New York Press Club Award for reporting on protests against the United Nations over cholera in Haiti. He has contributed to at least 20 video packages for Al Jazeera English and is credited as the sole producer for several. In 2023, Yvon was camera operator for Jim Crow Goes to Haiti, winner of the Outstanding Feature Documentary and Audience Choice awards at the Art of Brooklyn Film Festival. He was a field producer for VICE and has co-bylined articles for France Info and the Globe and Mail.

Please don’t hesitate to contact Yvon if you’re looking for a creative and reliable journalist, producer, fixer or cameraman in Haiti.
